Study Centre

The Study Centre is located on 2 minutes walking distance from Basel SBB train station, 5 minutes walking from the Student House and 15 minutes walking from the Basel city center.

The Study Centre is of the World Peace Academy provides a comfortable and spacious learning environment spread over multiple floors. It features a vast seminar room blessed with abundant daylight; a private library with relevant literature; widespread internet access for private student laptops, as well as a few shared student desktops; various locations for self and group study; a modest kitchen enabling students to store and cook food for lunch. 


Student House

The Student House is located on 2 minutes walking distance from Basel SBB train station, 5 minutes walking from the Study Center and 15 minutes walking from the Basel city center.

The Student House hosts those World Peace Academy students that wish to live together and at a comfortable distance to both the Study Centre and the city center. Each room is equipped with a wardrobe, a desk, a chair, and a bed.  Each floor has shared showers and toilets. A cleaning service cleans all the toilets, showers and hallways daily, and changes bed linen once per week. The price per room per month is 500 CHF.

Last but not least, an inner courtyard/garden can be used by the students to enjoy sunny afternoons and evenings.    


Study Centre and Student House neighborhood

The neighborhood, called Gundeldingen (or simply “Gundeli“), is a pleasant multicultural area full of small (take away) restaurants, supermarkets and cheap shops.

Please find below a rough overview of what is available in Gundeli within 5 minutes walking distance from the Study Centre and Student House:


2 Copyshops; 3 Electronics Stores; 4 Kiosks; 5 Minimarkets (generally open every day and until 22h); 3 Supermarkets (mostly open during weekdays and until 18h); 2 Pharmacies; 1 Post Office (Marghareten); 10 Clothing stores (all price ranges); Gym “Form Haus“; Kung Fu School “Ying Tsu“; Bowling Centre;  ATM Machines; 2 Laundry Services

Hair Dresser “Coiffeur Salon Anoy“ (20 CHF for men, 25 CHF for women)

Movie House (mostly Hollywood and Bollywood, rent 5 CHF and caution 20 CHF; sells also international calling cards)

Migros Restaurant (menu 11-18 CHF) / Migros Gourmessa (sandwiches 5-9 CHF)

Thai take away “Typisch Thai“ (dishes 8-14 CHF)

Chinese Restaurant (open every day, lunch menu 20 CHF; dinner soups 8 CHF, dinner dishes 20-40 CHF)

2 Turkish Restaurants and take away “Murat Imbiss“ and “Istanbul“ (doner/durum 7-9 CHF, pizza 9-12 CHF)

Japanese take away “Wasabi“ (lunch menu of the day 10-20 CHF)


Of course this is just Gundeli, and within 5 minutes walking, so imagine how much more the city of Basel has to offer. We wish our students a wonderful exploration!

 

Cost of living

The currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF or SFr.). The Euro (EUR) is accepted by the major supermarket chains (Migros, Coop, Manor, etc) and by service providers (railways, Post Office, certain restaurants, etc). However, your change will be given in CHF.


The canteen and cafeteria of the University of Basel offer meals for students for CHF 7.50 to 10.00.
