Certificate of Advanced Studies in Fragility, Conflict & Statebuilding

Aim of the Course

Fragile states have become an issue of major concern for the international community. They are least likely to make any substantial progress towards the Millennium Development Goals and are seen as being particularly prone to violent conflict. But what exactly is state fragility?

- The foundations of states and the construction of social and political legitimacy
- Concepts and definitions of state fragility
- Links between violent conflict, fragility and statebuilding
- The international policy response to fragile and conflict-affected contexts
- Adapted methodologies proposed by international actors for working successfully in fragile contexts

A minimum of two years of professional experience in relevant fields and a university degree (minimum BA) or an equivalent educational background are required.
