Grundlagen der Friedensstudien

Dieser Workshop ist basiert auf Buch 3 in der Serie der TRANSCEND University Press,

"50 Years: 25 Intellectual Landscapes Explored" (50 Jahre, 25 intellektuelle Landschaften erforscht, eine deutsche Fassung kommt) von Johan Galtung(2008). Es gibt einen Überblick über die Stärken und Schwächen verschiedener Sozialwissenschaften, und Vorschläge, was noch fehlt. 1958 gab Galtung den ersten Kurs in Konflikt- und Friedensstudien an der Columbia University in NewYork.  Doch hatte er bereits 1951 beschlossen, Friedensstudien zu begründen, als er in seiner Heimat Norwegen Dienstverweigerer aus Gewissensgründen wurde.

Dr. Johan Galtung, born 1930 in Oslo, is a distinguished Professor of Peace Studies and Founder of TRANSCEND, a Global Network for Peace and Development (www.transcend.org) with 350 members in 80 countries. He is widely recognized as the founder of the academic discipline of peace studies. He founded the world's first Peace Research Institute in Oslo, Norway, in 1959, and the Journal of Peace Research in 1964. From there he brought his work to new centers for peace and conciliation throughout the world. He was the first rector of the TRANSCEND Peace University, www.transcend.org/tpu (2003-2007). He has been a consultant to the United Nations and its family of organizations. He has integrated rigorous scholarship and research with the development of innovative educational programs around the world. He has written 141 books (translated into 33 languages) and over 1500 articles on various aspects of peace and conflict resolution. Over the last fifty years, he has mediated in over 100 major inter­national conflicts. His tireless commitment to peace has been recognized with numerous awards, including ten honorary doctorates and the Right Livelihood Award (the "Alternative Nobel Prize").
