This workshop is based on the book "50 Years: 100 Peace and Conflict Perspectives" by Johan Galtung (2008), the first in the series of books from the TRANSCEND University Press (www.transcend.org/tup). The book contains a collection of peace proposals, developed over the last five decades, for 100 conflicts from around the world in which Galtung has mediated, some of which he helped resolve. This book marked the 50th anniversary since Galtung founded the academic discipline of Peace Studies in 1958.  Proposals are meant to be constructive, concrete and creative, 3 Cs. What can each of us personally do for peace, including improving the many proposals?

"50 Years: 25 Intellectual Landscapes Explored" (50 Jahre, 25 intellektuelle Landschaften erforscht, eine deutsche Fassung kommt) von Johan Galtung(2008). Es gibt einen Überblick über die Stärken und Schwächen verschiedener Sozialwissenschaften, und Vorschläge, was noch fehlt. 1958 gab Galtung den ersten Kurs in Konflikt- und Friedensstudien an der Columbia University in NewYork.  Doch hatte er bereits 1951 beschlossen, Friedensstudien zu begründen, als er in seiner Heimat Norwegen Dienstverweigerer aus Gewissensgründen wurde.

This workshop is based on book 5 in the TRANSCEND UniversityPress series, "The Fall of the US Empire - And Then What? Successors, Regionalization or Globalization? US Fascism or US Blossoming?" by Johan Galtung (2009). All empires so far have had life cycles, and the US Empire is no exception. In no way should that be confused with any fall of the USA; just to the contrary, the fall of the US Empire may lead to the blossoming of the US Republic. And in no way should the book be seen as "anti-American"; just to the contrary. The prediction of the fall of the US Empire is based on a theory of cumulative contradictions used in 1980 to predict the fall of the Soviet empire a decade later. Three global scenarios--successors, regionalization or globalization, mainly regionalization--and two domestic scenarios--US fascism and US blossoming, mainly the latter--will be explored.

Dieser Workshop ist eine Einfuehrung in die Vortragsreihe der World Peace Academy des Winters 2009-2010 zum gleichen Gesamtthema. Er ist basiert auf Buch 6 der TRANSCEND University Press, "Peace Business: Humans and Nature Above Markets and Capital" (Friedenswirtschaft: Menschen und Natur vor Märkten und Kapital) von Jack Santa Barbara, Fred Dubee und Johan Galtung (2009). Dieses Buch untersucht, wie eine Firma geleitet werden kann, um den Frieden zu fördern. Das bedeutet, direkte, strukturelle und kulturelle Gewalt zu vermindern (negativer Frieden), und die Grundbedürfnisse für Leben, Wohlbefinden, Freiheit und Identität aller Menschen zu befriedigen, gleichberechtigte Beziehungen zwischen den Menschen aufzubauen, und die Natur für künftige Generationen zu schonen (positiver Frieden). Dies ist eine grosse Herausforderung, die Prioritäten in der Produktion zu ändern, die Organisation von Firmen neu zu gestalten, und globale Zusammen­arbeit zum Wohl aller zu entwickeln.
